What Now!?

If you get the chance go over to my friends blog http://fabricsnquilts.blogspot.com/ She has been working on a quilt to donate to her local American Legion as a fund raiser. She has outdone herself.
I am trying to decide what I was going to do with the crumb blocks. I think I will sash them like this. Just a small amount of black and white for a place to rest your eyes. I organized my sewing Cave and came across a couple of fabrics I forgot I had in the stash. This one below is me in a nut shell. I love the colors and the differnt prints and textures.
I came across this Fat Quarter I bought out of one of those $.99 FQ sale bins. At the time I could not really see the print because it was rolled up. Once I got home and opened it up .... it was kinda wierd.

A lady in different outfits and animals. Some with halos and wings and also the same animal with out. Then I even spotted the lady with wings and halo. hmm

I finally read the title of the fabric on the Salvage "Old Lady and the Fly" Kinda a grim print don't you think lol A lady and dead angel animals. lol Don't know what I would ever use this for.

  1. Don't know what I'd use it for, but it sounds like it's based on the poem/story about the lady who accidently swallowed a fly, to swallowed a spider to eat the fiy, then swallowed a bird (?) to eat the spider. It goes on until she eats something and dies.

  2. What I'm thinking about doing with some of the prints I bought (that at the time looked great to me, but now think I'll never use) is slice them up into strips for water color quilts.

If you just see a cow or a lady by themselves in a little square of a water color quilt, or an eye-spy quilt, it won't be so creepy! I like the colors of this fabric, and the wild print, too!

also like the white and black sashing for your crumbs. Sets off the blocks really well!

  3. I think I would put it together with no sashing. The sashing kinda ruins the spontaneity of it.

Yeah, that fabric is bad, but the colors are great. Just cut it up into strips and use it for making strippy blocks or more crumbs.

  4. Your crumb quilt is looking good!

I had the same thing happen to me: I opened the fabric and found it was skeletons! Turned out I used it in my black and white challenge log cabin...about 18 years after I bought it :)

  5. There was an old lady who swallowed a fly. I don't know whyyyy she swallowed the fly, I guess she'll die. She swallowed a spider to catch the fly.... sorry, that was one of my favorite songs when I was a kid. and okay, even now. I know, morbid much. just cut the fabric up - it'll add great color to your crumb quilts and if you use it small enough you can't see the pattern. you bought it for that, so you know it works in bits.
